SURREY— BC RCMP Traffic Services is reminding motorists that the rules of the road are still in effect regardless of being in the midst of a pandemic, this after a recent increase in speeding offences.

“Our officers are reporting seeing an increase in speeding offences, including excessive speed, on our highways across the province,” says Cpl. Mike Halskov of BC RCMP Traffic Services.

Officers in the Lower Mainland expressed concern after impounding 41 vehicles and ticketing 41 drivers for excessive speed over the Easter long-weekend.

The minimum fine for excessive speed is $368, three points, and a minimum seven day vehicle impoundment.
