City Wide Cleanup postponed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t clean

PRINCE GEORGE—”Happy Earth Day to Everybody!”—said Terri McClymont, Executive Director of REAPS as we neared the end of our over the phone interview.

This year’s REAPS City Wide clean-up has been postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis, but McClymont says that just because it’s not happening this weekend, doesn’t mean you can’t get out and clean.

The City Wide Cleanup takes place every spring in an attempt to beautify the city from garbage that collected over the winter months. This year’s was supposed to take place on Apr.26.

“The snow is melting and we are seeing lots of litter.”—Terri McClymont, Executive Director, REAPS

“We are encouraging everyone to pitch in differently this year,” said McClymont, “so while you are out walking your dog or having a family stroll take along a grocery bag and pick up the litter in your neighbourhood.”

As the event has been postponed, you won’t be able to place the bags on the side of the road for volunteers to pick up. Instead you’ll have to take them home and dispose of them in your curbside garbage bin.

“Any litter that we see blows and that distribution of litter ends up hurting our environment.”—Terri McClymont, Executive Director, REAPS

A new date for the City Wide Cleanup will be chosen once it is safe to do so.
