British Columbian workers affected by COVID-19 able to apply for provincial financial support May 1

VICTORIA—British Columbian’s who’s ability to work has been affected by COVID-19 will soon be able to apply for financial relief.

Starting May 1st, British Columbians will be able to apply for the $1,000 B.C. Emergency Benefit for Workers (BCEBW).

The BCEBW is a one-time, tax-free $1,000 payment for British Columbians who’s ability to work has been affected as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most people who are eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit will also be eligible for the BCEBW, including those who have run out of EI benefits.

You are eligible if:

  • you’ve been a resident of B.C. since March 15th, 2020
  • meet the eligibility requirements of the CERB
  • have been approved for the CERB and have not received your benefit
  • are at least 15 years old on the date of the application;
  • have filed, or agree to file, a 2019 B.C. income tax return; and
  • not be receiving provincial income assistance or disability assistance

On May 1st applications can be submitted online
