PRINCE GEORGE—If you’ve driven by Mr.PG today you may have realized he’s swapped flags for one with a heart in support of residents practicing physical distancing and staying home.

When the pandemic was first declared, Bailey Grose, a Prince George resident, decided to put up a heart in the window of her house as a way of increasing community connection during a time of physical distancing and isolation.

“I knew we would all be spending a lot more time at home and a lot more time apart at least physically, which can be hard –especially for children and parents with kids.”—Bailey Grose

Grose started a facebook group and a hashtag #heartsofpg, to encourage people to get outside and hunt for hearts around their community.

The Facebook group has grown quickly with more than 6,000 users joining in the past month. People have posted photos of hearts from around the city and even from around the world.

“There is no bigger symbol of Prince George than Mr. PG and there has been no better symbol of the spirit of our city during these uncertain times than the hearts of PG we now see in windows throughout the city.”—Lyn Hall

Mr. PG is turning 60 on May 8, and there had been talks of hosting an event in celebration, however, with that not being possible anymore the City is working with local organizations to create at home activities to help celebrate.
