Upper Mud River Road area under evacuation order

Residents in the evacuation order are reminded of the following points:

If you need transportation assistance from the area please advise the RDFFG at 250-960-4400 or Emergency Management BC at 1-800-663-3456.
Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
Take your 72-hour Emergency Kit and any critical items only if they are immediately available.

Earlier: The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued an evacuation alert for 39 properties on the Upper Mud River Road area. One additional property within the area is under an evacuation order.

The RDFFG attributes the alert to flooding and high water in the area.

Those under an evacuation alert are aked to take the following precautions:

Move equipment and farm implements to higher ground;
Make arrangements for pets and livestock to be moved to safe locations;
Gather important papers in water-tight containers and move valuables to alternate locations; and
Prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit for you and your family.

The public is also reminded to take extreme caution near rivers and streams with the RDFFG noting that high water-flows can cause bank erosion and instability, and currents in the river can be volatile and unpredictable.
