Evacuation alert issued for 36 homes in the Chilako River area

PRINCE GEORGE — The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) has issued an evacuation alert for 36 residences in the Chilako River area.

This is in addition to the 40 property owners under evacuation order in the Upper Mud River Road area since last night.

The RDFFG attributes the alert to flooding and high water in the area.

Those living in the alert area are asked to do the following in preparation for a possible evacuation order:

  • Move equipment and farm implements to higher ground;
  • Make arrangements for pets and livestock to be moved to safe locations;
  • Gather important papers in water-tight containers and move valuables to alternate locations; and
  • Prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit for you and your family.

The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution near rivers and streams as high river flows can cause bank erosion and instability.
