PRINCE GEORGE – East of the city Prince George, the rapid freshet is causing some damage to the road’s infrastructure on Shelley Road.

The rise in water levels has forced YRB road maintenance crews to close a section of the main access road into the Shelley area.

The closure is impacting the ability of the nearby volunteer fire department to respond to calls south of the road closure.

The rapid water flow and the substantial amount of ice debris flowing down the Fraser River is a sure sign of warming temperatures in the past few days.

The water comes from accelerated runoff, like the one which is causing a washout on Shelley Road. WATCH:

Shell-Glen Volunteer fire department is still operational and is prepared to respond to 911 calls north of the road closure. If necessary, emergency crews will respond to calls south of the washout.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George does not see any change in the responsibilities for the Shell-Glen Fire Department during this road closure. WATCH:

If an emergency should occur north of the washout residents can still call 911.

Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has been advised the road will be repaired in a week’s time.

Once the road has been repaired, the Shell-Glenn Volunteer Fire Department will be reinstated as the primary responding emergency crew for its area. FULL VIDEO STORY:
