OTTAWA—Businesses are now able to apply for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), Canada’s Prime Minister made the announcement this morning (Apr.27).

Applications for the wage subsidy provided by the federal government, opened this morning and will cover 75 per cent of employee wages, providing up to $847 a week per employee.

First payments will begin to arrive on May 7.

10,000 businesses have already applied for the CEWS since the application process began this morning.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed students and essential workers across Canada, saying that support for them is in the works and will have more to say on this in the coming days.

As for the re-opening of the economy, provinces will be providing blueprints to how they plan to go back to normal this week.

“No matter where you live you must continue following the recommendations of public health officials.”—Justin Trudeau

Trudeau says the re-opening of the economy will take extreme collaboration between all the provinces in order to get the timing right, so that current sacrifices don’t go to waste.
