Residents within the evacuation alert area are reminded by the RDFFG that though water levels have come down, weather conditions and other factors remain unstable and it is possible for water to rise to concerning levels again.

An evacuation alert remains in effect for 36 properties in the Chilako River area.

The RDFFG is asking those in the alert area to prepare in the event that an evacuation is required and take precautions to help prevent damage to their home, property and their personal safety including:

  • move equipment and farm implements to higher ground;
  • make arrangements for pets and livestock to be moved to safe locations;
  • gather important papers in water-tight containers and move valuables to alternate locations; and
  • prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit for you and your family

Extreme caution near rivers and streams is essential during these times, according to the Regional District.
