VICTORIA—Minister of Education, Rob Fleming highlighted the provinces efforts to continue to offer proper education to K-12 students across the province this afternoon, while mentioning that when students will go back is not known.

In face classes were suspended back on March 17th, once Spring Break had already begun for students across the province. In class education was discontinued for the majority of students in an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Teachers and students have had to quickly adapt to new ways of providing education. Many teachers and students have connected using Zoom, the video chatting app.

Online learning supports by the Ministry have been provided to parents across the province.

A Mental Health and wellbeing, and building resiliency support was created to support students and teachers during the pandemic— a time when isolation is crucial but could have negative impacts to mental health.

Minister Fleming did say that plans to reintroduce face-to-face education are in the works, however, when students may be back in the classroom is unknown.

As for whether or not teachers and school staff will be asked to wear personal protective equipment when face-to-face education is re-introduced is unknown at the time, with Minister Fleming saying they will work closely with health officials to determine if that will be necessary when the time comes.
