Apr 29, 2020 | 11:30 AM

PRINCE GEORGE—What would have been the 108th year of the BCNE in Prince George has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

President of the BCNE fair, Sylvia Layzell says there simply wasn’t a way to host the fair in a way that would abide with physical distancing.

“The safety of our community was the most important.”—Sylvia Layzell, BCNE President

“We have people from all over Canada and the U.S that come and assist with putting the BCNE together,” said Layzell to 99.3 the Drive’s Carol Gass in an over the phone interview this morning, “and we’re not willing to risk our community,” added Layzell.

A for what this means for next year’s fair, Layzell says they will come back stronger than ever.

“The BCNE…we’ve survived many things in the past, wars, depression, wildfires. With the community support we will also survive COVID-19.”—Sylvia Layzell, BCNE President

The 2020 BCNE would have taken place from August 13th-16th and would have featured rides, dog shows, 4H, and vendors from all over the north.
