PRINCE GEORGE—The Regional District wants to remind the public of a few things when it comes to their transfer stations and landfills, after an extremely high volume of visitors over the weekend.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) is once again reminding the public to reduce or eliminate unnecessary trips to both landfills and transfer stations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

A release by the RDFFG says, “if waste does not require immediate disposal (ie. food waste or an animal attractant) people are asked to consider holding onto it for a time, or make arrangements to take waste to waste disposal facilities at non-peak times during the week.”

If you are taking recyclable items, there may be other options for disposal.

“Appliances, metal, cardboard and electronics do not have to be landfilled.”—RDFFG said in a release

“Keeping out sites open and safe during COVID-19 is a challenge and we ask for your patience and cooperation,” continues the release. “That means if you arrive at a transfer station and the bins are full, please do not dump your waste around the bins. Remember, transfer stations are for household garbage only.”

The RDFFG had previously asked residents, prior to the Easter long weekend, to consider reducing their amount of trips to transfer stations and landfills in an attempt to continue to provide service while maintaining social distancing measures.
