Wilson Square Farmers Market launches summer season

PRINCE GEORGE – Something has returned to Prince George as the calendar slips into May. And it’s not the tulips.

The Wilson Square Farmers Market launched a new season on Saturday.

“It’s not a typical setup,” explains Maria Pennock, President of the Wilson Square Farmers Market. “Normally if someone dropped in, we would find a place for them. That’s not happening now. You have to phone and set it up ahead of time. Each vendor has their own hand sanitizer and some of them even have a plastic sheet in front of their booths.”

Each booth has to be separated and there is only one entrance and one exit.

But for Gwen Arrowsmith of 4 Paws Pure, the re-opening is welcome.

“It’s huge for us to come and be able to set up. Normally businesses like ours depend on markets and shows. Normally we would be in Edmonton this weekend doing a show but because everything has been cancelled right across the board, to be able to come out to this market has been wonderful.”

The Prince George Farmers Market up Third Avenue has not opened yet as it figures out its own strategy.
