PRINCE GEORGE – The owners and residents of the quiet community of Giscome located northeast of the city are struggling to understand an act of senseless vandalism.

The interior of the communities’ old catholic church has been part of the community for almost 80 years and it was recently defaced.

Bianca and Ivan Pecarski are the owners and caretakers of the Giscome church.

They understand the church is what connects the community.

Up to a few weeks ago, they left the front door unlocked so people could wander inside and share memories.

At the end of April, vandals entered the church and wrote on the walls and painting inside. WATCH VIDEO:

Each year the Pecarski’s spend several hours on projects to preserve the church. They try to keep it safe as time and money become available to fix it up.

The plan is to secure the building and protect what is left. The Pecarski’s are looking for volunteers to assist with repairing some of the damage and bring it back to where everyone can enjoy its history.

Anyone looking to volunteer can contact them via Facebook.
