ckpgVICTORIA—No new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health Region were reported today, but 33 cases were announced provincially.

The new number of total confirmed cases is now at 2,288 in the Province. Two deaths were also reported, one in the Fraser Health region and another in Vancouver Coastal.

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 865
  • Fraser Health: 1,064
  • Vancouver Island Health: 126
  • Interior Health: 179
  • Northern Health: 54

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in B.C. is now at 126.

No new outbreaks were reported today, according to Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Cases at the poultry plants, and the Mission Federal Correctional Facility did not see any new reported cases today.

There is a total of 21 active outbreaks at longterm care facilities. Health Minister Adrian Dix re-expressed his understanding that being unable to see your family members at longterm care facilities is difficult and that the province is looking at ways to better this, always keeping in mind the health and safety of residents at the facilities.

“We need to have a slow and thoughtful reset.”—Dr. Bonnie Henry

“We are now in phase one,” said Dr. Henry and we will continue to be in phase one until sometime after the May long weekend, when we will potentially move into phase two of the province’s Go Forward plan.

Henry added that as we move forward into phase two we will continue to practice personal hygiene measures, and that opening our circles will look different for everyone depending on our situations.

“Everybody’s circumstances are unique.”— Dr. Bonnie Henry

For example if you have an elder living with you, Henry says you will want to continue to be very cautious. And the same goes for businesses, Henry says we need to think about our audience and if we could do more harm than good by opening back up, or by not placing your own specific regulations, following the principles announced by the Premier yesterday, to maintain everyone’s safety.
