Happy Birthday big guy

PRINCE GEORGE—Happy Birthday Mr. PG, from all of us at CKPG News!

That’s right, Prince George’s roadside attraction is turning 60 today (May 8).

A little bit of history:

The idea for Mr.PG was brought forth by Mayor Harold Moffat in the late 1950’s. Moffat wanted to have a mascot for the city that would represent the booming forestry industry.

But the first Mr.PG wasn’t created until the 1960’s when Moffat approached local Rotarian and sawmill owner Hans Roine with the idea.

The very Mr. PG was entirely made out of wood. He has had a few different looks throughout the years and has adventured outside our northern community.

As for how to celebrate the big six-oh?

The City of Prince George announced earlier this week how they were planning on getting the community to celebrate the day while social distancing.

Some at home celebrations include Mr.PG printable colouring pages, found on the City’s website, and the hashtag #MrPG60 is being encouraged to be used when posting selfies with him on social media.
