PRINCE GEORGE — Bag Half Full is a no added cost delivery service for those more susceptible to contracting coronavirus. Volunteers are coordinated to pick up what is needed and deliver it. Both the courier and recipient are sure to maintain social distancing. Orders can be made online or via phone call and are delivered within 48 hours.

I called the client before heading to the grocery store to clarify a couple things and made sure they would be home when I was there to deliver the order,” volunteer Sara Appleby said of her first delivery. “After picking up the groceries I sent them a picture of the receipt so they knew how much money to e-transfer. Then I headed over with the groceries and dropped them off at the client’s door.”

In addition to helping those at risk, volunteers also hope they can promote local businesses.

“We’re really happy if people can order from local stores so we can promote local business in Prince George,” explained Jennifer Borchert, coordinator for Prince George. “People can order from wherever, within reason, they just need to order a minimum of five items.”

The service only just made it to PG in the last week after over a month of organizing. It has been an especially welcomed opportunity for Northern Medical Program students who can’t help out on the front lines due to COVID. This gives them a different option to support others. Borchert said of the opportunity, “As medical students, we aren’t able to help out in the healthcare system right now so it’s really great for us to be able to help out in another way.”
