UPDATE: 1 new case of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 1 death in B.C.

VICTORIA–Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry along with Health Minister, Adrian Dix announced 23 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C.this afternoon (May 11).

In the Northern Health Region 1 new case was announced, bringing the total to 57 in the north.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 873
  • Fraser Health: 1118
  • Vancouver Island Health: 125
  • Interior Health: 180
  • Northern Health: 57

One death in the Fraser Health Region was reported today, bringing B.C.’s total to 130 deaths.

The total of test positive cases in B.C. is now at 2,353 cases with 1,719 people who have recovered from the virus.

To date there are 19 active outbreaks at long term care facilities, with 291 residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and 184 staff.

No new community outbreaks were reported today, instead Dr. Henry announced that one has in fact been declared over–the Bylands Nursery in Kelowna.

66 people are in hospital today with 18 in ICU.

Dr. Henry said that as we move into next week if things keep going as they have been, British Columbia will be moving into Phase 2 of it’s “Go Forward” plan.

Going into the May long weekend Health Minister, Adrian Dix says we must continue to practice washing our hands, physical distancing, not travelling, and not engaging in or with large groups.

Dix asked British Columbians to follow the rules and not look to bend them.
