UPDATE: 7 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., no new cases in Northern Health

VICTORIA–Only seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported today in B.C.’s COVID-19 daily update.

No new cases were reported in the Northern Health region, the number remains at 57 confirmed cases in the north.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 874
  • Fraser Health: 1,124
  • Vancouver Island Health: 125
  • Interior Health: 180
  • Northern Health: 57

One death, related to a longterm care facility in Fraser Health was reported today.

As of today there are no new community outbreaks. 482 cases of COVID-19 are at long term care facilities, with 295 residents affected.

B.C.’s total number of test positive cases is now at 2,360. 63 people are in hospital and 16 are in ICU.

Henry announced that B.C. has launched a province-wide survey to get British Columbians to express their experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who participate will be asked at the end if they’d like to participate in upcoming studies related to COVID-19.

Dr. Bonnie Henry also took a moment to thank nurses across the province for their work, as May 12th is International Nurses Day, and reminded British Columbians that the best way to show their gratitude to frontline health care workers is to stay healthy.

For those worried about moving into phase two of the ‘Go Forward’ plan, Dr. Henry said that we are taking the next steps slowly and carefully and asks that British Columbians do so aswell.

Once again she reminds the province that as we move forward we must continue to wash our hands, wear a mask (if you can) and practice social distancing.

A total of 1,832 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the province.
