Wildfire on Hwy 97 now under control

PRINCE GEORGE– UPDATE (May 15): The Pine River Fire which was considered out of control on Wednesday, is now an under control wildfire, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The Wildfire Service website estimates the size of the fire is 10 hectares.

The suspected cause of the fire is believed to be human.

EARLIER: The BC Wildfire Service says that as of this morning (May 14) the Pine River Fire is just under 8 hectares and is still listed as out of control.

Precipitation is expected in the area later today which should help the fire be reduced to either held, or under control.

No heavy machinery or air support will be required today.

PRINCE GEORGE–EARLIER: The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has released an update on the Pine River Fire, burning off of Hwy.97, just south of Hasler Flats and east of Mackenzie.

The grass fire, reported at around 2:30 p.m. today (May13) has gotten into nearby deciduous and is currently listed as out of control.

The wildfire is around 3 hectares in size and is currently listed as out of control. BCWS says that there are currently six people on site (two local inital attack crews) and that the Fort St. John Unit Crew is on its way.

Requests for an air tanker and a bucketship have been issued, both should be arriving at the site soon.

RCMP are currently on site conducting traffic control, however, the Ministry of Transport should be taking over the task soon.
