Confusion over Restart Plan timeline, guidelines for local business

PRINCE GEORGE — Mid-May was the originally planned time for places like hair salons, retailers, and offices to reopen as part of BC’s Restart Plan. According to a local business owner, however, there is some conflicting information.

The Restart Plan outlines hair salons, like Pepper Tree Hair Studio, as a business that could potentially open sooner than later. However, owner Shannon Wright said as recently as this week, she was told the original order for all such places to be closed through the end of the month is still in place.

“The order is still in place until [May] 30th so we are awaiting further updates or clarification as far as if we can open earlier,” explained Wright. “Of course we want to get back to work but then we also want to protect ourselves, protect our clients and the community. It’s been challenging to figure out what those details look like.”

On May 6, BC’s Restart Plan was announced. One issue spoken about during that announcement was the potential for another shutdown once businesses do re-open and if they could be reopening too soon. Dr. Bonnie Henry said, “I believe that this plan and the way we’ve put it together gives us the tools so we can increase our numbers and safe contacts in a way that keeps us on the steady state for at least the coming months.”
