PRINCE GEORGE–The United Way of Northern BC announced today (May 15) that it is disbursing its cut of federal funding to 37 local agencies to aid seniors amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding comes from the $9 million that the federal government allocated to United Way Canada under the ‘New Horizons for Seniors Program’, to support the most vulnerable seniors, affected directly or indirectly by COVID-19.

The funding will aid in seniors support for food, supplies and meals, transportation, outreach and resources to assist with barriers around isolation as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

“At this time when we are being encouraged to stay home and physically distance, it has become increasingly evident that our seniors need support in this new situation.”–Trista Spencer, Executive Director, United Way of Northern BC
