PRINCE GEORGE – It’s been a tough few months for non-profit organizations when facing fundraiser efforts.

Today (May 24th) would have marked the 2nd Annual Colour Walk for the Prince George Hospice Society, however, due to COVID-19, rather than cancelling the event they opted for a month-long campaign titled 100k for the month of May.

“It’s about people going out as families or individuals and go for a walk,” said Flood earlier in the month. “Even if it’s just the work you do in your house, around your favourite park, or even around your neighbourhood, and maybe get some pledged from family and friends in support of Hospice.

The organization had to cancel major fundraising events such as their Antique Fair and High Tea event, as well as the closure of their retail store.

With just one week remaining in their new month-long campaign, Flood says fundraising efforts are still tough.

“We’re really behind than where we’ve been in previous years. We are pleading to the community to come out and support Hospice. We understand there’s some urgency for other non-profits, but if you do have anything to spare then pledge the Colour Walk. It’ll help us to continue to do what we do.”

Despite the struggles in fundraising, the staff at Hospice have enjoyed the enthusiasm the public has demonstrated in embracing their new take on the Colour Walk, urging participants to pledge and sport their colours to celebrate loved ones or various causes.

“I think what I like most are the stories that we’re hearing and reading,” said Flood.

As the Province now sits in Phase 2 of its COVID-19 re-opening response, Flood says they’ll be able to start looking at even more creative options in order to narrow the loss of fundraising dollars with the next fundraising campaign likely coming in June.
