UPDATE: 12 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., none in Northern Health

May 25, 2020 | 3:16 PM

VICTORIA—In today’s (May 25) Provincial Health Update, by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix, no new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health Region.

Provincially 12 new cases were reported over the past 48 hours.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 894
  • Fraser Health: 1,253
  • Vancouver Island Health: 127
  • Interior Health: 194
  • Northern Health: 62

Four deaths were reported over the past 48 hours. All in long-term care facilities in the Fraser Health region, bringing the province’s death toll to 161.

There are no new community outbreaks, to date, however, Dr. Henry says they are continuing to monitor current outbreaks. She once again mentions that although there have been outbreaks at food processing plants, that there is no reason to believe that COVID-19 can be spread through food or food packaging.

There are 2,530 confirmed cases of the virus, but only 267 are active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

2,102 people have recovered from COVID-19 after testing positive for the virus. To date there are 37 people in hospital and seven people in critical care or ICU.

Dr. Henry highlighted the fact that there is only one week left to complete the COVID-19 survey in B.C. Over 313,000 people have completed the survey since it was released to the public. The survey can be completed online or by phone.

More data information will be shared with British Columbians next week for a better understanding of where B.C. has been as we’ve stepped into Phase Two of B.C.’s Restart Plan.
