PRINCE GEORGE – The dream of creating a new recreation site for a local outdoor enthusiast over thirty years ago is finally completed.

This week Rick Brine is putting some final touches on the Willow River Access trail system and thanking those who helped make his dream come true.

Over three decades ago Rick Brine had a concern a section of the old Willow river recreation site was eroding away.

Knowing many people enjoy using this section of the Willow River located just off Highway 16, he began to work on a plan to re-establish a new rec site on the opposite side river from the old site. WATCH VIDEO:

Accord to Brine this area is a recreational jewel used by hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts. The river and surrounding area are known for hunting, fishing, hiking and canoeing.

The newest rec site is located 2 kilometres south from Highway 16 Willow River bridge.

The new riverside trail system is designed to meet the increasing demand of the area.

The trail begins at the campsite. The looped trail is around 2 km, with sections of the trail leading near the bank of the Willow River.

Brine plans to add more trails for those with mobility issues.

Like many recreation sites in the province, the new Willow River Rec site is accessed by a gravel forestry road.

The trail is designed to be used for foot traffic and range from rustic to single-track paths through dense forest. WATCH THE FULL VIDEO STORY:
