‘Giving is the difference that truly makes a difference,’: Raising money for healthcare in the north

PRINCE GEORGE—The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation could be the potential recipient of $20,000 if the community comes together.

The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is taking part in this year’s Great Canadian Giving Challenge, a national public contest to benefit any registered Canadian charity.

Residents can donate to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation’s campaign, ‘Make a Difference Mondays’ as giving is the Difference that truly makes a Difference, while simultaneously entering the foundation for a chance to win the $20,000 grand prize.

“Well, twenty thousand dollars, just to give you an example, is a portable EKG machine, that’s a LIFEPAK 15, which is crucial in transporting patients to even get to the first point of care. So twenty thousand dollars is a lot and it goes a long way.”–Judy Neiser, CEO, Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation

For every dollar donated, in June, it automatically enters the charity to win an additional $20,000, which would be put towards healthcare in the north. Participants are able to donate online, then share a post on why they chose to participate in the challenge while tagging five friends to also take part.

The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation says that charities across Canada have faced fundraising shortfalls due to COVID-19.

This is the sixth year the Great Canadian Giving Challenge has taken place, last year over 109,000 Canadians participated, donating more than $14 million to over 12,000 charities.
