New rules modernize family court in 2021
VICTORIA—A modernized approach to how families in B.C. can resolve their legal issues in family court will come into effect next year.
In a release from the Ministry of Attorney General, it says that the new family court rules will come into force in May of 2021.
The rules include modernized court processes recognizing electronic communication, enabling electronic filing and giving judges more flexibility in determining the best use of court time. Some of the changes are particularly relevent to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The changes are aimed at enhancing the ability of the provincial court to resolve family disputes more efficiently and effectively, while creating a better experience for families resolving their legal disputes,” reads the release.
