VICTORIA—Premier John Horgan addressed the public this afternoon from outside the Legislature addressing the several changes that have taken effect in the province so far this week.

The Premier began with the part-time voluntary, return to school for students that began on Monday, June 1, saying that they have seen a gradual increase of students heading back to in-class learning. More information will be made available on the reintegration of students to in-class learning as the weeks go by. This gradual re-introduction to in class learning amidst the COVID-19 pandemic is part of B.C.’s plan to getting students back in the classroom full time in September.

Earlier this week the Province implemented a .75 cent raise to minimum wage, which Horgan says puts the province on track to reaching a minimum wage of $15 by 2021.

And lastly Horgan touched on the protests that have been taking place in the United States in regard to the death of George Floyd, who was killed by American law enforcement. Horgan saying that “(racism) exists here as well,” and that the province has put money towards anti-racism programs across B.C. but that there is always “room for improvement.”
