Three-year Spruce King and last year’s Captain Nolan Welsh knows where he will be playing next season.

Wednesday morning it was announced that Nolan Welsh has committed to the newest NCAA Division 1 hockey program at Long Island University.

“I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in the Spruce Kings organization,” stated Welsh in a press release sent out by the team.

“I couldn’t say enough good things about how this program supported and treated me the last three years,” adds Welsh.

The Whistler, B.C product played a major role in two memorable playoff runs for the Kings which included a league championship in the 18/19 season, along with a Doyle Cup win, and a 2nd place finish at the National Championship in Brooks.

“I am incredibly happy for Nolan that he has secured this NCAA Division 1 scholarship. There isn’t a more deserving player,” shared Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.

“Nolan was with us for three seasons and he epitomizes what it means to be a Spruce King.”

Welsh finished off his Junior A career last year with his best offensive output, racking up 14 goals and 25 assists in 46 games.

“He (Welsh) leaves Prince George as an outstanding teammate, leader, hockey player, and person,” explained Kings Head Coach Alex Evin.

Welsh finishes his Junior A career playing 199 BCHL regular season games and is 6th all-time in playoff assists with the Kings.

He also sits 5th in BCHL history in playoff games played at 61.
