VICTORIA— Twenty-two new cases of COVID-19 were announced in B.C. today, in a joint statement by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix, but no new cases in the Northern Health region.

That brings the number of test positive cases in B.C. to 2623 in B.C. since the pandemic began though 2243 of those people have recovered. Here’s the regional breakdown:

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 905
  • Fraser Health: 1332
  • Vancouver Island Health: 127
  • Interior Health: 195
  • Northern Health: 64

There are now 214 active cases in B.C. – 32 of those people are hospitalized, seven are in intensive care. There was one additional death today, in the Fraser Health region, bringing the provincial death toll to 166.

Henry and Dix also have advice for people with plans to protest.

“Racialized communities face obstacles that others to do not, and we have seen British Columbians proudly stand up and speak out against racism,” say Henry and Dix . “Exercising our right to peaceful demonstration is extremely important, and equally important is keeping our communities, loved ones and friends safe during this pandemic.

“Consider alternative ways to peacefully demonstrate, as we have seen elsewhere. Gather in smaller numbers in multiple locations, maintain a safe physical distance from those around you and use a non-medical cloth mask for the brief periods when in closer contact to others.”
