VICTORIA—No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region, today.

The north’s total of confirmed cases remains at 64.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 909
  • Fraser Health: 1,334
  • Vancouver Island Health: 130
  • Interior Health: 195
  • Northern Health: 64

As of today there is a total of 2,632 test positive cases, of which 201 are currently active.

No new deaths were reported today.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, released new modelling today (June 4) that tracks back from January 1st to May 29, and highlights the virus-fighting benefits of safe distancing protocols as British Columbia reopens the province while the pandemic progresses.

From January through the end of May, health officials have found that the majority of people affected by COVID-19 ranged between the ages of 30-60 and that very small numbers have been youth.

The modelling explained how people ages 60-80 have been more susceptible to end up in hospital, however, there were two cases in which children under the age of ten needed hospitalization. Two people in their 40’s have died from the virus, but no one under the age of 20 has died from COVID-19.

B.C.’s first cases of COVID-19 were primarily linked to people returning from travel in China and Iran, while later cases in March were largely connected to people returning from visits to the United States or other parts of Canada, according to the modelling.

Women have also seen a slightly higher number of cases in the province, versus men, however, more men have been hospitalized and died from the illness.

26 people are in hospital, to-date, which marks the lowest amount of active cases in hospital since March 20th—six of those are in ICU.
