Bakery welcomes National Donut Day

PRINCE GEORGE – For many people, the first Friday in June may just come and go like every other weekday.

For others, it’s the holiest holiday as they celebrate the delicious pastry the donut on National Donut Day.

The staff at the oldest bakery in Prince George, Pastry Chef Bakery, has been preparing for this day for the last 24 hours and creating over 1300 pieces of deep-fried goodness.

On the eve of National Donut Day and Karl Haus begins the journey to creating over 1000 donuts for the next. At around midnight once the flour is mixed and the dough has proofed.

Haus then begins the frying process which he says he can’t stop because making donuts can be a time-sensitive process. WATCH CLIP:

Through his years of experience in making donuts Haus says his costumers are looking for donuts that are from scratch and made fresh.

There are many shapes and flavours of donuts. One of the most popular donut at the Pastry Chef is the one that takes the most amount of work to make…the jelly-filled.

Once on the trays are filled with donuts they are moved to the front of the bakery where Petra Haus and her team prepare for a spike in donut sales.

According to Petra, National Donut Day does keep the staff busy but there are those people who do not need a special day to enjoy the sweet treat.
