PG Roller Derby athletes forced to wait until 2021 to compete at International level

Back in November, we introduced you to Taylor Robinson and Dael King-Smith. A pair of young roller derby athletes in the City of Prince George.

At the time the two had just been announced to represent Canada in Regina at the Junior Derby Roller Cup, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they will have to wait a little bit longer before they take to the International stage.

“It was planned for August of this year and for a long time we were hoping things would die down in time for us to hold it in August, but now we will hold it in August of 2021,” explained Robinson.

The good news is everyone on the team is still eligible to take part in the Championship in 2021.

Now the pair have just over a year to prepare for competition and both have elements of their game which they are hoping to improve on.

“Agility for some people or moving around for myself more. It’s getting those little things you struggle with down,” shared Robinson.

“I personally need to work on balance,” explained King-Smith.

“We have an extra year so we need to take advantage of that time to train.”

But the pair haven’t been able to practice with their teammates since March, just prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, now with the restrictions slowly starting to be lifted, they are hoping to get back on the hardwood sooner rather than later.
