PRINCE GEORGE – BC’s Wildfire fighting crews are known to be well equipped and skilled to fight forest fires. Currently, in the Prince George region, wildfires are at a low.

In the past few weeks, some of the crews are taking this opportunity to sharpen their skillset by helping to maintain a popular recreation site within the city limits.

The Pidherny recreation area is located in the northwest corner of the city. It covers over 600-hectare and within it are over 30 kilometres of trails.

Early this year a few of the local wildfire fighting crews used the area to train on how to fall danger trees.

The nature of these kinds of projects is a win for those who use the trail system. According to Brock Paciejewski the skilled forestry crews typically focus on removing hazardous trees.

This type of training and trail maintains projects are preformed across the province when the BC Wildfire crews are not fighting fires.

According to Paciejewski, the Pidherny recreation trail system continues to grow and is predominately used by the mountain bike community.

The assistance in keeping the ever-growing trail system safe is greatly appreciated. WATCH THE FULL STORY:
