VICTORIA—One less case of COVID-19 in the Northern Health Region after a data correction in a joint statement by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix released today (June 12).

Northern Health is at 65 test positive cases of COVID-19—one less than yesterday. Provincially, 16 new cases of the virus were reported.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 922
  • Fraser Health: 1,396
  • Vancouver Island Health: 130
  • Interior Health: 196
  • Northern Health: 65

The 16 new cases brings B.C.’s total of test positive cases to 2,709, 187 of those are active cases.

One additional death was reported in the Vancouver Coastal Health region bringing the province’s total number of deaths to 168.

To date, 12 people are in hospital and three are in intensive care. No new healthcare or community outbreaks were reported today.

“We have been monitoring our COVID-19 restart activities closely and are modifying our approach as we move forward. This includes amending the provincial health officer’s order for food and liquor service establishments to make restaurants and pubs safer for employees and patrons.”

The amended order goes step in step with enhanced worker guidance and can be found on WorkSafeBC’s website.

“Food service owners need to remember that protecting your employees and patrons requires layers of protection in the kitchen and in the dining area. Plans need to include such things as frequent handwashing, increased cleaning, using barriers in kitchens and dining areas, and giving lots of space between tables,” read the statement.

Patrons attending local establishments are asked to complete their checklist:

  • Are you healthy?
  • Is your group small?
  • Is the WorkSafeBC plan clearly posted?
  • Are physical distancing barriers in place?

“We all want to stay safe and we all have a role to play. The decisions we make and the actions we take will protect our communities and allow us to continue to progress.”
