FORT ST.JOHN—A man was taken into custody for allegedly distributing counterfeit money.

In a press release released on June 4th, Fort St. John RCMP say that they had investigated seven reports of counterfeit currency, in a two week period. According to the reports there were numerous $50 and $100 bills that had been circulated.

Fort St.John RCMP say that through their investigation they were able to identify, arrest and charge a 41-year-old man. Wynter Scott has been charged with four criminal charges including three counts of Uttering Counterfeit Currency and one count of Breach of Release Order.

According to police Scott is facing other counterfeit currency charges from earlier this year.

“Typically, large denomination counterfeit currency is used to purchase smaller priced items and the offender receives a significant amount of cash back as change.”—Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer, Fort St John RCMP

“Occasionally, the offender will return to the business and return the item, receiving the remainder of the cash value back,” adds Cst. Neustaeter.

Fort St. John RCMP are reminding local businesses to ensure that staff—at all levels—have the adequate training in counterfeit bill detection.
