Plan revealed for civic re-opening
PRINCE GEORGE – Mayor and Council heard a very detailed report from Administration about its plans for re-opening Civic Facilities, both indoors and outdoors.
The hope is to re-open the Aquatics Centre on September 8th.
Usage would be limited to four, two-hour blocks with an hour between each to sanitize the facility.
However, due to its nature as a common swim lesson location, there is no plane to re-open the Four Seasons Leisure Pool until BC enters Phase Four of its Restart Plan.
“We don’t expect swim lessons to resume until Phase Four,” noted Adam Daley, Director of Community Services and Public Safety.
The hope is to re-open Kin Centres Two and Three is August 4th, with Kin One shortly thereafter.
The CN Centre, the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena and the Elkcentre are a different matter. They may happen in early September, depending on user demand. It was also noted both the WHL and BCHL are in the midst of submitting their return plans into the Province.
However, it is likely the number of players onto the ice at a time will be limited.
As for outdoor facilities, it was noted that many City parks and trails remained open for public use and about 80 City and School District playgrounds were re-opened June 5th, as were fenced dog parks.
However, park and facility rentals, such as ball parks, will not be issued for the remainder of 2020 and user groups can now begin their bookings for 2021.
The future of Masich Place was much-discussed.
Once construction is complete, likely in the fourth quarter of the year, usage of the facility will by limited to the hours of 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., which coincides with one staff member shift.
