7 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., no deaths

VICTORIA—It’s been almost two weeks since the last reported test positive case of COVID-19 in Northern B.C.

No new cases of the virus were reported today, the north remaining at 65 test positive cases. Today’s (June 19) COVID-19 update announced seven new test-positive cases in B.C.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 952
  • Fraser Health: 1,446
  • Vancouver Island Health: 130
  • Interior Health: 197
  • Northern Health: 65

The seven new cases bring B.C. to a total of 2,790 test-positive cases with 178 of those being active. To-date,11 people are in hospital, six of who are in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported, B.C.’s death toll remains at 168.

No new health-care outbreaks were reported there are a total of six long-term care or assisted living facilities and one acute care facility with outbreaks. No new community outbreaks were reported.

In their joint statement, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix both addressed the allegations of racism in B.C.’s health-care system, that were announced Friday (June19) morning by Dix.

Both Dr. Henry and Minister Dix stated that as a province we have worked together to flatten the COVID-19 curve in and must to the same when it comes to addressing racism.

“On June 21, as we honour Canada’s Indigenous peoples and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, as well as Father’s Day, let’s use this same momentum to stand against intolerance. Let’s celebrate the incredible diversity within our province and how this enriches us all,” continued the statement.

2,444 people have recovered from COVID-19.
