PRINCE GEORGE — The first Great Northern International Film Festival is supposed to be in September. But with the pandemic, there are still question marks about what it could look like.

Most things are in a “holding pattern” for right now as the province inches forward with the restart plan but a virtual option for the festival is on the table. A final decision is expected to be made in August. No matter how it turns out, organizers are determined to have the show go on.

“If we can’t go ahead with the film festival, then everybody misses out on the opportunity to engage with out-of-towners, it affects tourism, it affects the infrastructure of how it will actually happen in the first place,” explained Norm Coyne, one of the organizers. “The sponsors and supporters we have so far for it just wants to see something like this happen. It’s not going to affect the in a super negative way it’s just a bummer for the first year.”
