Tourism PG Visitor Centre to re-open on Canada Day

PRINCE GEORGE—Tourism Prince George announced the re-opening of its Visitor Information Centre today (June 19).

The Prince George Tourism Information Centre will re-open on July 1. The decision to re-open comes after the development of safety measures to ensure visitors and staff can remain safe from the possible spread of COVID-19.

“While things may look slightly different at the Centre this summer with some modifications to the physical space, our staff and summer counsellors will provide the same excellent customer service and guest services as we always have,” added McBride.

Tourism PG has developed a COVID-19 hub page for locals and visitors in the area. Locals with family or friends that are visiting are encouraged to contact the Centre in advance so that an information package can be put together in advance.

Health and safety measures taken by Tourism PG include:

• An occupancy limit of four parties or six individuals in the Visitor Information Centre at one time
• Limited gift shop inventory on the floor and in display cases
• Reduced number of pamphlets and guides available for visitors to browse (provided by staff instead)
• Rotating staff hours to accommodate the new occupancy limit
• Plexiglass barriers where physical distancing isn’t possible
• New health and safety signage/decals

Tourism Prince George is optimistic about the future of the tourism industry, after tourism took a large hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Resident Sentiment Survey was launched earlier this month to help Tourism PG gauge locals opinions on visitors. “Based on the results of the survey, we’ll develop some creative and enticing tourism packages to help drive local tourism and stimulate economic activity,” said MCBride.

The Visitor Information Centre will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
