Body of man missing since avalanche discovered
CHETWYND — The body of a 31-year old Fort St. John man missing since an avalanche in February has been recovered.
Police say RCMP air support was conducting another fly over south of Chetwynd on June 18 where the avalanche occurred when an article of clothing was seen in the area. Chetwynd RCMP were then taken to the scene where they recovered the body.
North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the man had been covered in deep snow, adding the warmer weather and melting conditions led to the discovery.
“The RCMP would like to thank North Peace Search and Rescue and everyone who helped with the search efforts,” she says. “The BC Coroners Service has conduct of the investigation and no further comment will be released at this time.”
