Foodie Fridays cancelled for summer 2020

PRINCE GEORGE–Some unfortunate news for local foodies, Foodie Fridays won’t be happening this year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancellation of many events near and far, and the fourth Foodie Friday’s event hosted by the City of Prince George, unfortunately, is no different.

“So early in the spring the City did look at Foodie Fridays and at the time, seeing how we didn’t know how long COVID would extend for or how that would look, we made the decision not to go with it this year.”–Adam Davey, Director, Community Services and Public Safety, City of Prince George

While the event itself won’t take place, food vendors are still allowed to hit the town and sell their food, as long as they have a mobile business license and abide by health measures to ensure the safety of staff and the public.

The White Goose Bistro is one vendor that’s participated in the event, and says they are saddened to hear it won’t be taking place.

“Oh, it was terrible!–We love Foodie Fridays, we’ve always been a big part of Foodie Fridays, it is something we look forward to every year.”–Ryan Cyre, owner and chef at White Goose Bistro

Financially, Cyre says that the lack of the summer event won’t have too much of an impact on their business. “It’s not like it’s our main income by any means, our restaurant is our forefront for sure,” said Cyre “it is missed though for sure, don’t get me wrong.”

Cyre adds that while Foodie Fridays may not happen, The Gosling will make its way out onto the streets of Prince George this summer. The food lovers event was started back in 2017 outside of City Hall, and was moved to the Civic Centre in 2018, and might be moved once more. Davey’s mentions that next year’s Foodie Fridays may make its way to the Wood Innovation Square.

Despite the weather putting a bit of a damper on last year’s Foodie Friday’s event, the City says they saw an increase in customers, with around 550 people lining up to get food every Friday.
