PRINCE GEORGE—Local RCMP arrested two people after a traffic stop turned into a Controlled Drug and Substances Act investigation.

On Saturday, June 27 at around 5 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Dawson Rd. in Prince George as a result of a Motor Vehicle Act infraction. A release by Prince George RCMP says that when officers approached the vehicle things went from a traffic stop to a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation which led to the arrest of the female driver and male passenger.

However before being able to cuff the male, he fled on foot, initiating a foot chase. Police managed to catch the man a short time later and found him in possession of a prohibited hand gun with a loaded prohibited magazine and one bullet in the chamber. An additional three loaded magazines were found on the suspect, which RCMP say gave him access to around 60 rounds of ammunition at the time they had stopped the vehicle.

“This is great work by our officers, seizing a substantial amount of cash and drugs, and removing a prohibited firearm from the street…Who knows what kind of harm we were able to prevent as a result of this traffic stop.”—S/Sgt. Darin Rappel, acting Operations Officer for the Prince George RCMP

The male suspect was also found to be wearing soft body armour and in possession of a substantial amount of cash, methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl. Police seized drug trafficking paraphernalia after searching the vehicle, along with the vehicle itself.

34-year-old Anthony James Graham, who had recently moved to Prince George from Kelowna has been charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, he has been remanded and is in custody, awaiting his virtual court appearance on Thursday. Further charges are expected to be approved at a later date.

The 31-year-old female driver from Prince George was released without charge, however drug related charges may be approved at a later date.
