Church raises more than $6,000 for ALS through Golfathon

While golfing from sunrise to sunset sounds like a blast for some, there’s no doubt that the task wouldn’t be easy.

For Jessey Church, he had the chance to do just that this past Friday as he took part in the PGA of BC’s Golfathon for ALS.

“Feeling a little bit tired, but other than that it was for a good cause so it was easy to power through,” explained Church.

The PGA of BC pro teed off Friday morning at 4:15 a.m. and wrapped up at 10:15 p.m.

“The experience was great. The golfers and the public out on the course were excellent. They let me play through. 160 holes was a little less than what the goal was, but all and all it was a pretty good day.”

However, the day wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Church, actually quite the opposite, which posed some challenges during the round.

“The biggest one was that it was pretty overcast in the morning,” explained Church.

“I would have liked to have been out there at 3:30 a.m. cause it’s normally bright enough to be out there, but it would be pushed back to 4:15 a.m. There’s 45 minutes or ya know 8-10 holes more I could have had.”

While he didn’t complete his goal for holes completed, he did surpass the $5,000 goal which he set at the beginning and has now raised just over $6,000 for ALS. Church knows this is something which he will do again next year, with maybe a little help, but overall the golfer knows his success wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the support from Prince George and surrounding area.
