Cougars select Fin with 12th overall selection in Import Draft

The Prince George Cougars have added some Finnish flavour to their line-up for the upcoming season as they have selected Jonni Karkkainen with the 12th overall selection in the 2020 CHL Import Draft.

Karkkainen spent last season with HIFK U18 in Finland, where he had 9 goals and 9 assists in 29 games played.

Karkkainen also has International experience playing for both Finland’s U16 team in 2018-2019 and for the countries U17 squad this year.

Cougars Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb has had great success drafting players in the Import Draft from Finland during his WHL career.

When he was in Swift Current, he selected star forward Aleksi Heponiemi, blue liner Julias Honka, and goaltender Eetu Laurikainen.

Karkkainen is committed to coming to North America for next season.
