RDFFG urging extreme caution near rivers and streams as heavy rain expected through Thursday
PRINCE GEORGE–The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) is urging caution near rivers and streams, as heavy rain is in the forecast.
A release from the RDFFG says that water levels are expected to rise in the upper Fraser River over the next couple of days. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Cariboo and Central Interior, saying that anywhere between 20-40 mm of rain is expected through Thursday.
The District is advising residents to be on alert for flooding and landslides, use extreme caution near waterways and unstable ground, and be prepared to shelter in place for a minimum of three days in the event roadways are washed out and residents can’t leave their properties.
The increased amount of rain may also cause flooding in low lying areas. Residents are being asked to take the necessary precautions to protect their homes and property and move any animals or equipment from low lying areas.
