Flood risk forces City to issue evacuation alert
PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George has issued an evacuation alert for residents of Farrell Street across from Paddlewheel Park.
According to the BC River Forecast Centre, the river level at South Fort George could reach between 9.5 and 9.8 metres this weekend. Farrell Street residences could start to flood when the river reaches about 9.8 metres. It is currently at 9.4 metres. The City cited recent heavy rainfall in the Fraser River Basin as the cause of the rising water level.
Prince George Fire Rescue members are hand-delivering evacuation alert notices to homes on Farrell Street. Sand and sandbags are available at the north end of the street.
Residents under alert are strongly advised to have an emergency kit readily available to enable them to quickly leave their properties in the event of an evacuation order. Should the City issue an evacuation order, residences under alert must be evacuated immediately.
