Hart Market latest opportunity to support local as PG continues to reopen

PRINCE GEORGE — As more places open back up and events are allowed to grow bigger, more opportunities are springing up to support local entrepreneurs in Prince George. This past weekend, that opportunity hit the Hart as the Hart Market reopened from 11am-2pm on Saturday.

Similar to other markets in town, some provisions had to be made to keep with social distancing, so a limited number of people were allowed in at once, along with a maximum of ten vendors. The number of vendors could increase, however, once the weather dries up and people can set up outside.

One of the vendors who set up this weekend is Tammy Abbs who runs The Cookie Attic. She is one of the many vendors who had to change things up due to COVID such as shutting down for the first little bit but then reopening for deliveries and e-transfer as opposed to regular cash payments. Although the capacity restrictions kept foot traffic low it did not seem to affect the market.

“It’s a little bit quieter because there aren’t as many people allowed through but for the same amount of time I cook quite a lot and all the people who come through are really happy to be here and happy to support local,” said Abbs.

Usually, there would be one large-scale event per month with the Hart Market but as a way to maintain social distancing, there will instead be two each month, on a smaller scale.
