VICTORIA — Twenty people have tested positive for COVID-19 in B.C.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed the news in her latest update today (July 9) from Victoria.

She said there are no new cases of the virus in Northern Health for the thirtieth day in a row.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 982
  • Fraser Health: 1596
  • Vancouver Island Health: 133
  • Interior Health: 201
  • Northern Health: 65

Henry also said that an additional 51 people have tested positive in B.C. who live outside the country. That is the total for the pandemic.

There are a total of 3,028 people who have tested positive for the virus, though 2,667 people have fully recovered.

There are 175 active cases in B.C. including 17 people who are hospitalized. Four of those people are in critical care or intensive care units.

“B.C. residents have done what we need to do to flatten the curve and I thank you for that,” said Henry. “And I know we’d like to get back to normal but this pandemic is not over.”

She added we only need to look to the south of us in the United States to see what can happen “if we let our guards down.”

There were no new deaths reported today with the provincial death toll remaining at 186.
