DAWSON CREEK — RCMP arrested two men this week after they fled from police and loaded weapons were found.

Dawson Creek RCMP S/Sgt. Damon Werrell says early Thursday morning officers observed a suspicious vehicle driving through a residential neighbourhood in the area of 107th Avenue.

“The officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop however the vehicle subsequently fled from police,” he says. “Soon thereafter RCMP members located the vehicle a short distance away, abandoned but still running. Inside the vehicle, officers located a loaded .22 caliber handgun and a loaded sawed-off shotgun.”

He says Cst. Curtis Quanstrom and Police Service Dog “Hammer” arrested the suspects a short time later.

As a result, 24 -year-old Devin Daniel Calliou has been charged with breach of a conditional release order and 27-year-old Jesse William Freeman has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. Both suspects remain in police custody pending court appearances.

Werrell says Devin Calliou currently has several matters before the courts awaiting disposition including but not limited to: robbery, use of an imitation firearm, kidnapping using a firearm, kidnapping, occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of a prohibited and/or restricted firearm with ammunition.

“The arrest of Devin Calliou; whom is a recognized prolific offender, while being in breach of court ordered conditions and inside a vehicle in which loaded firearms were found, is very concerning,” says Werrell. “Individuals such as this present a very danger to the public and to police as they continue to be active in committing violent crime.”

He says additional charges relating to this incident are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
